Akoya Pearls

From Japan

Every Pearl Embarks on a Journey.

Flower Jem is more than just a showcase of Akoya pearls’ visual beauty—

it is a space dedicated to unveiling their origins and the intricate process behind their creation.

For nearly a decade, I worked at one of Japan’s largest Akoya pearl farming enterprises,

witnessing firsthand how Akoya oysters are cultivated and how pearls come to life.

From the very source of pearl cultivation to the meticulous processes of refinement and distribution,

I have observed every stage up close.

Through this platform, I share the depth of that experience.

Few in the pearl industry truly understand the relationship between Akoya oysters and the pearls they nurture.
From the perspective of those who devote themselves to pearl farming,

what defines the essence of a truly beautiful pearl?

How do pearls transition from harvest to auction, and eventually into the hands of wholesalers and retailers?
And what transformative role does processing play in shaping their final brilliance?

From the rich history of pearl cultivation to the modern-day journey of Akoya pearls,

this site is a gateway into a world rarely seen.

I invite you to explore the luminous beauty of pearls and the untold stories woven into their journey.

Akoya from the Pearl farm

In tranquil seas embraced by nature,
Akoya oysters are lovingly cared for through hot summers and chilly winters, creating exquisite pearls.
The role of this boat is to shower the oysters with a strong shower to remove any dirt that has built up on them.
It takes more than two weeks to clean all the oysters on this boat.
This process continues to protect the oysters from predators, even under the scorching sun.

Each of the black ropes tied to the raft holds a basket containing 4 kilograms of Akoya oysters.
Straddling the raft, We walk along the logs, pulling in six ropes with my right hand and six with my left,
retrieving 12 baskets in just a few seconds. One of the tasks every morning is to pull up a black basket that holds 20 logs
with just two people. This is hard work until you get used to it.
Rainy days, hot days, calm days, the Akoya oysters are cared for at the pearl farms.
Some oysters die halfway through,
some are too healthy and secrete too much nacre to produce baroque pearls,
and some oysters dislike the inserted nucleus and spit it out.

Unlike other agricultural, forestry and fishery products, pearls do not grow by sowing seeds.
Therefore, when pearl farmers send off the pearls they have harvested,
they feel as if they are sending their children on a one-way journey.
Whether the pearls are good or bad, they are precious to them.

“Your Story, Your Pearls”

I create custom-made Akoya pearl jewelry, tailored to your style and story.
Let’s craft something special together—contact me for details.
These rings were handcrafted by me, from the metalwork to the finishing, based on customer feedback.
The ring in the center was a special order from a friend who saw a similar design during a business trip.
It’s something I wouldn’t have imagined on my own.
Even just changing the color of the thread to your preference can add a personal touch.
Switching from metal to thread, or from thread to metal, can transform the expression of the pearls.
Let’s explore the new and unseen faces of pearls together.

I’m the face of Flower Jem

I am Lulu, a young and radiant pup of exquisite charm.
The esteemed owner of FlowerJem is my devoted subject, yet he dares to capture my likeness
in photos and videos without so much as requesting my royal consent!
Pearls?
What trifling baubles! Are they even fit for consumption?
Such matters do not concern me.
Nevertheless, I shall graciously extend my paw in friendship—consider it an honor!

Well, I have no particular interest in pearls,
but it seems they have quite the infatuation with me.
Truly, it cannot be helped—no matter what I adorn myself with, it simply becomes me effortlessly.
Certainly, my dear…
Would you prefer to immerse yourself in the exquisite world of pearls,
exploring their intricacies and grandeur through My educational blog?
Or perhaps,
shall we step into My boutique,
where you can indulge in the finest selection of treasures?
The choice is yours.
Be at ease, for I am ever-present, awaiting your call.
