A Small Moment at the Supermarket, and Four and a Half Hours with Pearls

Hello, this is Flower Jem.

Today I went to a supermarket called Life and bought rice, onions, and soy sauce.

When I walked toward the register, there was a couple making a bit of a scene.

The wife, who looked to be around fifty-six years old, was saying loudly,
“There are no eggs! There are no eggs!”

From what I could see, she seemed to be telling the cashier, “I forgot to buy eggs, so please wait a moment,”
while at the same time signaling to her husband, “Go quickly and get the eggs.”

However, her husband matched her energy and said, “The eggs are over there! Hurry, hurry!” urging her on instead.

She looked at him with an expression that seemed to say, “Me!?” and then ran toward the egg section herself.

The sight of the wife — who had intended for her husband to fetch the eggs — ending up running to get them herself looked very charming to me.
That small moment alone made me feel unexpectedly happy.

Now then, this weekend as well, I postponed my tax return work and devoted my time to making earrings.

I created several pairs at the request of a customer who will be visiting Japan next month.

The entire four-and-a-half-hour production process — pearl selection, pairing, assembling the fittings and chains, and the gluing — was livestreamed on YouTube.

At one point there were about ten viewers, but personally it feels as if one million people are watching.

Of course, I cannot respond instantly in English to sudden comments, so in a way I also feel at ease when there are no viewers.

The full four-and-a-half-hour video has been posted as it is.

For those who might say, “I don’t have that kind of time,” I also edited and posted shorter versions of about one and a half minutes and seven minutes.

Since around last autumn, I have found myself increasingly creating pearl pieces in response to customers’ specific requests.

It is something I am truly grateful for.

As a result, I have had fewer opportunities to write articles.

So this time, I am writing this news entry as a small way to make up for that.

Since around the turn of the year, the number of visitors to this site has surpassed 10,000.

I would like to fill it with so many articles that no one could ever finish reading them all, no matter how many times they visit.

Until next time.

Pearl bless you,

Flower Jem
