Embracing Tradition: The Allure Of All-Knots Pearl Necklaces

Currently, many Akoya pearl necklaces are made from chemical fiber threads. However, until the invention of chemical fiber thread, necklaces were made of silk thread.

The silk thread is easy to cut, and if the silk thread of the necklace is cut, the pearls of the necklace will scatter. Pearls are round and small and can be lost. Therefore, a knot was tied next to each pearl in the necklace so that the pearl would not come off the necklace even if the silk thread broke.

And when the chemical fiber thread was invented, knots were no longer tied because the chemical fiber thread is a strong thread that cannot be easily cut. Working in a pearl company, I rarely see necklaces that have a knot next to every pearl. By the way, a necklace with knots next to all such pearls is called “All-knots”. Seven years into my career at a pearl company, I saw an all-knots necklace with colored threads on Instagram. I was very moved. I was moved by how cute that necklace was.

From that day on, I worked hard to master all-knots techniques. I asked my boss to teach me, but they say. “There is no need for all-knots these days because we have chemical fibers.” “Colored thread?” they said uninterestedly.

In fact, all-knots is a very tedious task. A normal necklace has only three knots on each end. All-knots require 48 knots for a 7mm size necklace.

I was lucky enough to get all-knots information from Youtube. I practiced for about 6 hours every night after work. As a result, I was able to make a necklace using the All-knots method in two weeks. However, I am very clumsy, so it took me an hour and a half to two hours to make one necklace. Still very satisfied.

When I was in high school, I discovered the guitar. When I came home from school, I practiced guitar as soon as I finished my homework. Dinner was from 18:00, so I played the guitar every day from 19:00 to 1:00. I finished my homework early so that I could practice the guitar. As a result, I got good grades in school. At that time, the Internet was not yet widespread. In general, high school students were obsessed with TV dramas. But I only spent that time playing guitar, so I always pretended to know when talking about TV dramas with friends. I expected that when I told my friends that I wasn’t watching TV, they would say, “Don’t look cool.” I pretended to know in my daily TV conversations with my friends, but it didn’t bother me. Because they just spew out information, and how little their minds were stimulated. Even these days, not watching TV doesn’t give a very good impression to people around me. The number of people who do not have a television is definitely increasing, but the power of television is still enormous. A long time ago, Japanese people used to say, “TV steals your soul,” and I think I can understand it a little. I remembered this while practicing all-knots.

I believe that colored thread necklaces and bracelets may have the power to bring pearls closer to people. Many people consider pearls to be expensive and difficult to use on a daily basis. I think that’s right. However, for me, who spends my days surrounded by pearls, I know that pearls are not easily scratched. And if you don’t care about the shape of the pearl, there are also low-priced pearls. Colored thread necklaces and bracelets can be less formal and more casual pearl products. These are basically personal preferences. I can’t easily change people’s values. However, it is possible to propose one way to enjoy pearls.

The shape, quality and price of pearls will be discussed in another article. A pearl without wounds is expensive, but the wounds are invisible at a distance. If you don’t have a cap on your pearl buying budget, that’s fine, but it’s hard. One option is not to worry about wounds that you can’t see from a short distance. Instead, you can choose pearls with a higher brilliance. The brilliance can be seen even from a certain distance.

This is very important when purchasing pearls. I want you to refer to it when you buy pearls. I think it’s best to buy pearls at a physical store if possible.

See you soon.
