Balancing Pearl Crafting and Food Factory Work

It’s been a while since I last posted an article. In the first half of July, I was involved in work related to a food factory and received training at the headquarters of the food factory. Although it was called training, I was just working tirelessly with the Vietnamese workers on-site. The tasks included handling heavy objects and required very fast hand movements, making it extremely tough for me. The training lasted two weeks, and just as it was ending, I received an order for pearls. I was very pleased because I received an order for a necklace, earrings, and a bracelet all at once.

I left the pearl company because I wanted to work with pearls. By leaving the pearl company, I gained more mobility and freedom in my pearl activities. However, at the same time, I also needed to take on work at the food factory, which increased my time constraints.

The pace is slow, but I plan to continue making beautiful pearl products and sharing information about Akoya pearls within my capacity.

By the way, today is July 24, 2024, and the rainy season in Japan just ended a few days ago. The temperature has been around 35 degrees Celsius every day. The thermometer at home reads over 30 degrees even at night. A classmate of mine, who has been working with me, went on a business trip to Indonesia during my two-week training. Upon his return, he lamented, “Japan is the hottest.”

It seems that summer temperatures have been rising every year. I am also concerned about the growth of Akoya oysters. As of June, the growth conditions of Akoya oysters this year are reportedly not very good. Because the Akoya oysters are not growing well, it seems that it will continue to be difficult to cultivate pearls over 8 millimeters. The size of the pearl generally corresponds to the size of the Akoya oyster.

Just like people with big hands can hold larger balls, If a small person tries to hold a large ball, they might drop it. Similarly, Akoya oysters can sometimes expel the inserted nucleus.

Also, if a person with large hands tries to hold a small ball, they might not be able to fix it properly. In such a case, the nucleus inserted into the Akoya oyster can move inside its body, making it difficult to produce perfectly round pearls. Everything needs to be the right size for it.

That’s all for now!

I am part of a Japanese company with an Akoya pearl farm. Apart from the company, I personally run an Akoya pearl shop. I would appreciate it if I could share smiles with various people through pearls.
