There is a band called polyphia, a musician that my brother recently introduced me to.
I have been playing the guitar as a hobby for nearly 30 years, but I was impressed for the first time in a long time. The rock and metal genres have a lot of mediocre music, but this Polyphia feels very fresh. It’s a mysterious melody with a bit of meaning. It doesn’t feel like an instrument. Even without the vocals, it’s very imaginative.
And personally, the most noteworthy point is the height of the technology. I like to practice difficult phrases, but this band doesn’t even bother to copy them. Of course, my guitar skills are too low. My brother found out about this band because Steve Vai played in it. Both me and my brother are fans of Steve Vai.
When I was a high school student, his album “Alien love serets” was playing on Japanese radio, and the next day I went to buy the album. At that time, the Japanese music industry was in the heyday of makeup bands. KISS is my favorite band, but I was not good at Japanese makeup bands. They were very narcissistic, and their guitar playing did not impress even an amateur like me. At that time, Japan was in a serious recession, but I felt that Japanese music lacked some kind of strength, and there were many weak songs that gave up.
Under such circumstances, Vai’s music felt like jumping from a deserted amusement park in the countryside to Disneyland. When Vai came to Japan in 2000, I went to their concert. Even I, who doesn’t usually cry, cried. Whether it’s the guitar or anything, I’m deeply impressed by people who put so much effort into one thing. And Vai has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his handprint is on the Los Angeles Walk of Fame. I went to Los Angeles just to see his handprint. His handprint was on the doorstep of a large guitar shop where many customers walked by. Some people walked on his handprint, which surprised me, but I was happy to see it in person.
By the way, I went to Santa Monica, but it was raining. The bus guide kindly said, “You are lucky! It’s sunny almost every day in Santa Monica!” Many young people called out “Smoke” while walking in Los Angeles. For me, McDonald’s S-size cola and steakhouse steaks are ridiculously large, and I was surprised at the size of the American scale.
Next to Vai, I was impressed with Sting. For me, Sting has nothing to do with times, moods, or trends. Listening to it always fills me up. The band that he was famous for, called Police, was the year I was born, but I still think it’s great to listen to. Even in novels, I like things that give me passion and sentiment that don’t fade even after decades.
The story deviated from the topic.
I liked the Vai so much that I bought a Vai signature model guitar. The model number of the guitar is JEM77FP “Flora pattern”. After becoming a member of society and working as a salaryman for about three years, I started a business. I named the company “Flower Jem” by borrowing the model number of the guitar. The company went out of business after seven years. I’m a company employee now, but I took the opportunity to bring Flower Jem back to life. This is likely to be a place where the nuances of self-expression are stronger than profit.
If you’ve read the blog up to this point, you’ll understand that I’m just writing what I think. I don’t have a lot of context. Please come and have a look again.
I would appreciate it if you could know what kind of person sells what kind of pearl.
