Akoya Pearls: Riding The Wave Of Unprecedented Growth

This season’s Akoya pearl auction has started. Last year, the market was up about 30%, and this year it’s going up even more. That’s an increase of over 200%. One of my bosses exclaimed, “The market is once in 100 years.”

Auctions around 10 days are held in January, February and March respectively. As a pearl farmer, I hope that the current market price will continue until March. Especially this time, it seems that Mikimoto Pearl is approaching the auction with unprecedented momentum.

We have been sorting pearls at the pearl farm every day since the beginning of the year. Pearls harvested daily from the sea are transported to the office.

I have been working for 18 days straight today. This work will continue until early February.

Product development and website updates have also become stagnant. As expected, I was tired too.

However, for pearl farming companies, the Akoya harvest is the biggest event of the year.

Pearls are harvested in December and January, immediately sorted and sold straight to auction. It is fleeting to meet beautiful pearls.

I am part of a Japanese company with an Akoya pearl farm. Apart from the company, I personally run an Akoya pearl shop. I would appreciate it if I could share smiles with various people through pearls.
