Autumn Blue Sky – Custom Order Story
This necklace is a custom order.

The client first ordered a pair of natural blue Akoya earrings from Flower Jem, and this time she requested a necklace.
Originally, this six-millimeter necklace was not what she had in mind.

One day, a long-time customer of mine, Mr. S – someone I have known since my years working at a pearl company (here referred to as W Pearls) – visited my home.
He told me he had purchased natural blue necklaces from W Pearls, about one hundred strands in total.
He allowed me to examine them, and among them were several of excellent quality: pearls without large wounds, strong luster, and even blue tone.

With his permission, I chose the best lot and purchased three strands.
Only those three carried a clean, unclouded blue.

Each necklace had a tag marked with a five-letter code. Because I worked at W Pearls for many years, I was able to decipher it – it represented the valuation of each piece.
After checking all one hundred, I found that the strands I selected had the highest valuation, about forty percent higher than the original purchase price.
I did not explain the code to Mr. S, but when I told him my selection was the highest grade among them, he was surprised.
Ten years in the pearl industry makes this possible, yet it still made me quietly happy.

I introduced these strands to Flower Jem customers through photos, and she chose the six-millimeter necklace.
She originally preferred a smaller size, so I did not expect her to want this one – but the luster was strong, the quality was high, and the baroque shape was beautiful.
I showed it to her just in case, and she selected it.

W Pearls owns several Akoya farms, and from the color of this necklace I know exactly which farm it came from.
I remember the faces of the farm manager, the technicians who insert the nucleus, and the workers who manage the oysters in the sea every day.
The manager and I are close – he talks a lot, and when we speak on the phone, two hours are never enough.
His wife laughs and says we sound like lovers, but most of our conversations are about Akoya oysters: growth conditions, seasonal challenges, and future plans.

For more than ten years, we have talked about the difficulty of raising oysters to large size in that particular sea. Growth is slow, so the farm focuses on producing more pearls around six millimeters instead of trying to force larger ones.
But their pearls shine exceptionally well.
At auction, pearls from this farm are regularly purchased by well-known companies.

My story became long, but simply put – these pearls are not strangers to me.
They were born in a farm I have visited for a decade.
This necklace, too, carries that history.

Flower Jem always tries to honor the vision of each customer, even in custom orders.
Even if I do not currently have the pearls you are looking for, I can source them from primary dealers in Kobe.
Sometimes, unexpected requests lead me to create pieces I would never have imagined alone – and that is a joy.

I hope you take time to learn about Akoya pearls through Flower Jem’s site.
Thank you for being here.
