A Night with Blue Baroque Pearls: Finding the Perfect Pair

Friday Night: Returning to My Pearl Work in Kobe

During the weekdays, I work in Osaka in a job unrelated to pearls. But finally, it’s Friday, and I can return to Kobe.

Tonight was another cold night.

This evening, I worked on a request from a customer who wanted to replace the white round pearls in a pair of ready-made earrings with blue pearls.

In the end, I couldn’t find any blue pearls that were round enough, and the original pearls in the earrings were 4mm, but none of the blue pearls I own are that size.

But I don’t want to simply say, “I couldn’t find them.”
I always want to do my best to meet my customers’ requests in any way I can.

So, I made several pairs using 6mm blue baroque pearls instead.

I am a pearl dealer, yet I hardly keep round pearls in stock.
That’s because I’m not particularly interested in white round pearls.
Besides, nearly all pearl companies and dealers carry them.
I don’t think I could compete with them on the same playing field.

More than anything, I genuinely love blue baroque pearls.
I don’t intend to push them onto anyone, but I would love to share this passion with those who appreciate them too.

That said, I don’t feel the need to have deep discussions about their charm.

Just saying, “They’re beautiful, aren’t they?” is enough for me to feel connected.

Running a business with this mindset is not exactly easy.
But I’ve never felt happier doing something I love.
If I’m lucky enough to reach 80, I hope I can continue this work as both a hobby and a business for as long as possible.

But for now, what matters is that tonight, I made some pairs of blue baroque pearl earrings.

If you’re interested in these pearls, feel free to reach out with any requests.
I know exactly which hands placed the nuclei into these Akoya oysters—
that’s how much love and attachment I have for them.

And now, it’s already 1:40 AM, so I’m off to bed.
I was so sleepy at work today that I felt like I could have dozed off while standing.
But when it comes to working with pearls, I somehow end up staying up late.

Good night.
And for those just starting their day, I hope something good happens to you today.

I am part of a Japanese company with an Akoya pearl farm. Apart from the company, I personally run an Akoya pearl shop. I would appreciate it if I could share smiles with various people through pearls.
