This double-strand ring is made with natural blue Akoya pearls and Akoya Keshi.
Inspired by a rare custom order and a face-to-face meeting with an overseas customer in Japan, this design holds special meaning for Flower Jem.

**************************************************************************************
This is a double-strand ring made with Akoya pearls and Akoya Keshi pearls.
Both the pearls and the Keshi are natural blue in color.
The Akoya pearls measure approximately 4.0–4.5 mm.
The mirror ball is 2 mm in size and made of K18 white gold.
This type of ring design is not particularly rare.
However, for Flower Jem, this design holds special meaning.

Some time ago, a customer who had traveled to Japan from overseas took the time to come and meet me in person.
That month was quite unusual for Flower Jem, as I was able to meet four different customers who had come to Japan from abroad.
Together, we visited several pearl shops in Kobe, and the customer purchased pearl jewelry they liked directly from those shops.
However, there were some requests that the shops could not accommodate, such as specific pearl sizes or adjustments to chain lengths.
For those pieces, the customer asked Flower Jem to create custom jewelry.
This customer preferred K18 gold, and for this ring, they requested a triple-strand design using K18 gold mirror balls and white-toned pearls.
In addition, they ordered a station-style bracelet and necklace from Flower Jem.
All of the production processes for these pieces have been recorded on my YouTube channel.

Flower Jem shares information about pearls and offers pearl jewelry from Japan to customers overseas.
I rarely share information or sell products within Japan itself.
Because of this, I almost never meet customers in person.
Under those circumstances, being able to meet a customer face-to-face, visit pearl shops together, and receive custom orders directly was a truly great honor for me.

The design of this ring is adapted from the custom order I received from that customer.
As Flower Jem, I naturally wanted to use Akoya natural blue pearls for this version.
One of Flower Jem’s particular design choices is that the ends of the ring do not use crimped metal stoppers.
Instead, Akoya Keshi pearls are used to secure the ends.
Originally, I planned to use well-shaped Keshi pearls that closely matched the other pearls.
However, I decided to add a small touch of playfulness and used one slightly larger, irregularly shaped Keshi pearl.
The ring size is JP 3.5 (approximately US 2.75), with an inner diameter of approximately 13.8 mm.
Sometimes, the same sound can feel completely different depending on who makes it.
If it comes from a stranger next door, it may feel like noise.
If it comes from someone you know, you might simply think, “Oh, they’re doing something,” without feeling bothered.

Likewise, the feeling of lightly bumping shoulders with a stranger on the street is different from bumping into a friend.
I have known about this type of ring design for a long time.
Yet, until now, it never truly interested me.
Meeting this customer in person and spending a special time together changed that.
Through that experience, this design became something special to me.

In that sense, I sometimes feel that our interests and sense of value are quite unreliable.
At the same time, it reminds me of a simple truth: assigning value to an object is ultimately a personal choice.
In my neighborhood, including myself, many residents are newcomers.
People who have moved in from elsewhere often do not greet one another.
I make it a point to greet people I encounter within about 200 meters of my home.
After about six months, a sense of familiarity naturally develops.
Sometimes, those greetings even turn into short conversations.
The difference between knowing and not knowing someone, between being connected and not connected, feels significant to me.
Reflecting on how I came to love a ring design I previously had no interest in, these thoughts came to mind.

For those interested, there are also videos showing the production process of this ring.
There are three versions available:
a full 1 hour and 20 minute video,
a condensed 12 minute version,
and a 1 minute video focusing only on the highlights of the finished piece.

For those who may not be interested in jewelry, there is also a New Year’s greeting video from Akoya Keshi.
And for those who are not interested in pearls at all, there is a midnight howling video of Lulu, Flower Jem’s beloved shop dog.
