This is a 7.5–8.0 mm necklace and bracelet set.
The pearls with stronger pink tones are knotted with pink thread, while the more white-toned pearls are knotted with blue thread. Both pieces are made using the all-knot technique.

This set was created as a custom order for a repeat customer of Flower Jem.

Until just a few years ago, white-pink baroque pearls were not commonly seen even within the pearl wholesale industry. In recent years, however, they seem to appear a little more frequently. I am always searching for baroque pearls, whether blue or white-pink, but even dealers who purchase pearls at harvest auctions say they do not see them very often.

It is said that pearls of this kind are often exported as loose pearls rather than being assembled into strands. Because baroque pearl necklaces generally have lower demand, they are not commonly seen in strand form. Of course, this is only within the range of what I personally know. There must be places where they exist in abundance. After all, pearl farms harvest many baroque pearls.

As for the luster of these pearls, I would describe it as about 3+ on a scale of 1 to 5.
A level of 5 would be luster comparable to the smooth surface of a metallic sphere.
Level 4 is generally considered high quality.
At level 3, the impression becomes a softer and gentler luster.
In my experience, many pearls sold on the market tend to fall around level 2 to 3.

However, expressing the strength of pearl luster in words is truly difficult.

At Flower Jem, I remain persistently devoted to the all-knot technique. Even when someone does not seem particularly interested in all-knotting, if they ask for a necklace, I often proceed with the assumption that it will be made with all-knotting. So if you prefer not to have all-knotting, please tell me clearly: “Please don’t all-knot it.

The reason is simple. The moment I began selling pearls independently, outside of the pearl company where I used to work, was when I fell in love with an all-knotted necklace.

At that time I did not know much about pearl jewelry (to be honest, I still don’t know that much). When I saw an all-knotted necklace made with colored thread, it gave me an enormous shock.

Before that, I had seen countless pearl necklaces at the company where I worked. Every time I saw those formal pearl necklaces, I would think: “The pearls are beautiful, but a necklace like this can only be used for special events. It can’t really be used in daily life.”

Somehow it felt wasteful. Pearls are beautiful, yet they rarely get to participate in everyday life. I even felt a little sorry for them.

Then I saw pearls knotted with colored thread.

The excitement I felt at that moment still remains in my chest today. That feeling eventually became Flower Jem.

Of course, there are other reasons why Flower Jem began, but a large part of it comes from this love of all-knot necklaces.

If I had been more knowledgeable about pearl jewelry, I might never have become interested in all-knotting. Not knowing things can sometimes be a disadvantage, but it also allows someone like me to feel wonder very easily.

I may be misunderstood when I say this, but I also tend to prefer lowering my standard of living slightly. When life becomes a little less convenient, I feel that the number of things that bring happiness increases. There are many disadvantages, of course, but I like a little inconvenience.

All-knotting also takes time and effort to make. But every time I finish one, I feel a quiet sense of happiness. And the pearls somehow become much more charming.

Well, this is simply my personal preference.
