Akoya Pearl Long Necklace 3.5-4.0mm 78cm Sterling Silver Chain & Sterling Silver Clasp

1 in stock

This is a long Akoya pearl necklace designed for everyday wear.

Each pearl is individually connected by hand using stainless steel wire.

Necklaces where the chain passes directly through the pearls are also commonly seen. However, at Flower Jem, pearls are connected to the chain individually rather than threaded through.

By doing so, there is no need to enlarge the drill holes of the pearls.
If the holes are widened enough for a chain to pass through, the holes can become noticeable.

The pearl company I used to work for had a history of over 100 years, and there was a principle: “Do not show the drill holes of pearls as much as possible.”

There is no particularly deep reason for this.

In fabric products as well, knots are usually made in places that are not visible, such as the lining. It is something like that.

By the way, although I selected the pearls used in this necklace, I did not assemble the product myself.
It was made by a person named Hiromi, who has been helping with some of Flower Jem’s production since 2026.

That said, she is not a member of Flower Jem, but simply someone who helps.

On weekdays, I work in Osaka at a job unrelated to pearls, and on weekends I work with pearls in Kobe.
Recently, weekends alone have not been enough, so I created a workspace in my home in Osaka as well.

The person who helped create this workspace is Yuya, a business partner from my weekday job.
During the process of building the workspace, Yuya suggested that his friend Hiromi, who enjoys making accessories as a hobby, could also use this space.

I accepted this idea, thinking that working with more than one person would improve efficiency.
As a result, Yuya also began making accessories under Hiromi’s guidance.

At first, Hiromi and Yuya made their own accessories using natural stones.
However, when Hiromi learned that there were pieces I wanted to make but did not have time for, she offered to make them.
She seems to enjoy detailed and meticulous work.

Originally, the purpose was simply to enable pearl work in Osaka.

Yuya helped build the workspace.
He enjoys making desks and shelves by hand.

During this process, we decided that working as three people, including Hiromi, would be both enjoyable and more efficient.

The improvement in efficiency also comes from the fact that I sometimes fall asleep after returning home from work.
However, when they are there, I cannot go to sleep.

I have also recently realized that if I can get through the first ten minutes after returning home, I can immerse myself in pearl work without being affected by fatigue or sleepiness.

This necklace handmade by Hiromi is delicate and beautiful.

That said, almost all pearl necklaces are handmade, so I feel a slight discomfort with the term “handmade jewelry.”
I would like to see a pearl necklace that is not handmade.

At Flower Jem, I often create all-knotted necklaces.
Those also have a strong handmade feel, but this necklace may require even more labor-intensive handwork than all-knotting.

Although Hiromi had never worked with pearls before, she has over ten years of experience making accessories with natural stones as a hobby.
She quickly learned wire wrapping and steadily worked on this piece.

It probably took about half a month to one month to complete.
However, she only came to my home twice a week.
After finishing her daytime work, she would work alongside Yuya from around 6 PM to 9 PM.

Flower Jem has been operating for about five years, but this is the first time that collaborators have joined.
There is no employment relationship; they are simply companions.

Working with more than one person brings new ideas.
Above all, the opinions of those without prior knowledge of pearls are extremely valuable.

Now, I should also mention the quality of the pearls.

The pearls appear round, but strictly speaking, they are slightly irregular.
The luster is not strong, but it is not dull either. On a scale of five, it would be slightly above 2, or around 3.

There are almost no wounds on the surface of the pearls.
Since the pearls are small, even if there were any, they might not be noticeable, but in this case, there are almost none.

For the clasp, a small, thin tube-shaped clasp is used to match the size of the pearls.

This is a clasp that I selected over a period of about three years when I was working at the pearl company.

I also considered magnetic clasps, but they can sometimes come undone unexpectedly.
Even if that happens once every three months, I cannot recommend them for something meant to be worn.

The design does not interfere with the pearl necklace and is easy to use.

Another advantage of this long necklace is that it can be worn over the head even with the clasp fastened.

“So, does that mean the clasp is unnecessary?”

Not at all.
My wrist size is 15 cm, but this necklace can also be worn as a four-wrap bracelet, so the clasp is necessary.

I hope you will find the pearls you are looking for.

Pearl bless You
