Tsurara-つらら-氷柱-Icicle

Crystal and Akoya pearl earrings. It’s brass fittings. This pearl has a hole through it, but the underside of the pearl is inlaid with brilliant cut glass.

When crystals are combined with pearls, a sense of transparency appears. It’s winter in Japan. The icy crystal might look good in winter.
Pearls are uniquely baroque, but they have a nice sparkle. Blue, which also has redness, seems to be a little shy.

Soon I will be on a business trip for the pearl harvest. Although the schedule has changed several times, there is no doubt that I will go to the harvest.

The price of pearls has soared since last year. Akoya oysters have been dying in large numbers nationwide in recent years. And Chinese buyers are shopping for pearls with astonishing budgets.

It may be good for the pearl farms, but we are not happy because the amount of pearls that can be harvested is considerably reduced.

Apart from that, I’m looking forward to what kind of pearls I can harvest. I’m looking at blue. A different blue pearl is harvested each year, with trends ranging from true blue, strong greenish blue, strong metallic luster, gentle blue, intense blue.

If you look at the pearls for even 5 seconds, you will feel calm. The nacre is only 0.4-0.6mm thick. But its thickness is packed with mystery.

Mystery sounds good, but in other words, “Why is it this color?”

Deeper waters than shallow waters, sometimes people with more life experience are more attractive than inexperienced people.

I think we are fascinated by depth and the unknown. The same is true of space.

In other words, the same can be said for nature. When I think about why trees and water flows, I sometimes feel mystical. Most of us do not have time to face such nature in our busy daily life.

Sometimes we need time to relax and look at the sky or listen carefully to the sound of the rain.

I’m not sure if it has something to do with pearls or not.

At that time, I used to travel to a pearl farm every year around the middle of December.

It usually took until around February 10 to finish sorting all of the harvested pearls.

I continued this pearl-sorting work for about two months each year for ten years.

I did not think much about it at the time, but looking back now, I realize that it was a very valuable experience.

Around that time, I was also meeting frequently with a natural stone dealer, and under her influence I began purchasing natural stones as well. These earrings are probably one expression of that period.

In the end, however, I never developed much interest in natural stones, and nowadays I hardly use them at all.

Reading these old articles feels a little like reading a diary from that time, and I find that very interesting.
